QUETTA: Syed Faisal Ahmed, Provincial Emergency Operation Centre, Balochistan, has said the three-day anti-polio campaign in 19 districts will start on Monday. All necessary preparations have been completed in this regard, he said. During the three-day anti polio campaign a million and fifty four thousands ninety children under the age of five years will be administered polio drops in 16 districts.

Whereas in three districts of Pishin, Qila Abdullah and a part of Quetta one lakh twenty thousands (120,000) children under the age of two years will be vaccinated. Meanwhile in 15 Union councils of Quetta children will be administered inject able polio vaccines (IPV).

During the anti-polio campaign 3893 teams will participate and among them 3241 are mobiles teams, 458 fixed sites and 194 transit points have been set up.

Syed Faisal Ahmed said security arrangements satisfactory and added that the responsibility of the security would lie on Frontier Corps, Balochistan Levies and police.

He said for the success of the anti polio campaign and administrating polio to every child the service of volunteers of community health are being taken which would work in high security risk areas.

Special attention is being paid for the preparation of anti-polio campaign in the areas close to the Afghan border.

Around ten years old children in the areas of Pak Afghan border will be administered polio drops, he added.

Syed Faisal Ahmed said to make the campaign successful, help of Ulema, tribal elders are being sought as well.

He added that only two countries Afghanistan and Pakistan have this polio virus and in 2017 two cases have been reported so far.

The polio campaign are being started in the following districts, Awaran, Dera Bugti, Bolan, Gwadar, Kech, Harnai, Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi, Qila Saifulah,Kohlu,Lohralai,Mastung,Naseerabad,Panjgur,Sibi,Ziarat,Pishin,Qil a Abdullah and  in 15 Union councils of Quetta.

Syed Faisal Ahmed appealed to the parents to administer polio drops to their children to protect their children suffering from this contagious disease.

With the collaboration of UNICEF, the anti- polio campaign achieved success and it would go on till its eradication, Syed Faisal Ahmed concluded.
