Provincial Minister for Health Rehmat Saleh Baloch has increased the honorarium of the midwives from Rs 3500 to Rs 6000, saying that the midwives playing an important role in reduction of Mother Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in Balochistan.
He expressed these views while addressing to a seminar held on the International Day of Midwives, on Wednesday. He said that a policy would be made to regularize the midwives also on the lines as the Lady Health Workers were done, adding that the trained ladies can play a best role in the development of Balochistan.
He said that the trust of the international agencies has been restored in Balochistan after a lapse of twenty five years, adding that the role of midwives is of high importance in the far flung areas of Balochistan. He said that MNCH has provided ambulances in the entire Balochistan and these would be loaded with the medicine and other necessary equipment by the Health Department, adding that health had been the top-most priority of the current government since day one. He said that the incumbent government has regularize 7000 lady health workers and policy is underway for the midwives also. He said that the current government has inherited issues of forty years, adding that all the programmes of federal government relating to health came under the purview of health department which had been funded by the health department.
