KARACHI: Hasib Baloch struck a goal in the second half to enable District Football Association (DFA) Panjgur to lift the trophy when they defeated Chaman 1-0 in the final of the PPL Balochistan Football Cup 2017 at Ayub Stadium, Quetta, on Sunday.

Hasib’s 45-yard pile-driver in the second half proved decisive.

In the first half, both sides played tough game. Chaman reached very close to scoring a goal twice but their drives on each occasion missed the target.

“It was a tough game. The people enjoyed the show,” former Pakistan captain Mohammad Essa told this correspondent.

Essa was acting as the ambassador of the event in which 37 outfits from across the province competed.

The initial round matches were held in the six divisional headquarters of Balochistan. This was the second edition of this event.  Last year DFA Quetta had worn the crown. They lost their semi-final in this event.  Panjgur were playing for the first time in the competitions.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Tribal Affairs Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Wamiq Bukhari, and Sardar Naved Haider Khan, former Director Marketing of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), graced the closing ceremony.

Kamal Khan appreciated PPL for organising such a valuable event in the province.  He urged the organisers to make the event a regular feature to engage the youth of the province.
