“Of all the weaknesses that beset a man, vanity is the most deadly. For through vanity can a wise man turn to folly?”
― Raymond E. Feist, Exile’s Return
On 22nd September 2017, Ghazain Marri, son of the late Baloch politician Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri was arrested upon his arrival at Quetta airport. Nawabzada Ghazain Marri spent 18 years in a self-imposed exile in Dubai and the UAE. He was accused in the murder case of Justice Nawaz Marri who was killed in a bomb blast back in the year 2000. The former Home Minister of Balochistan was sure that he wouldn’t get arrested upon landing as he had acquired a protective bail from the court. His advocate Arbab Tahir said, “We have already secured protective bail from the court and there was no justification for Marri’s arrest”.
Marri was also accused in another case filed by the Levies. They claimed that their station was being attacked by Marri’s security guards in Kohlu. Ghazain Marri was moved to the district prison in Quetta after being arrested at the airport. Furthermore, Marri is also accused of being a facilitator of the banned militant organization, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
He got clearance from the court as the court declared his detention illegal and set him free. Jamal Mandokhail and Justice Nazeer Langove asked the Home Ministry to submit a justification of Marri’s arrest by 4th October but the Home Ministry failed to do so. Whereas, the additional deputy commissioner confessed in court that he received the orders of arrest from the Home Ministry.
After the release, Marri denied all the “deal saga” and reiterated that he came to face the false charges in which he had been framed. Marri said, “The plight of the Marri tribe is not hidden from anyone. Being a tribal man, I will first work for my own people and then decide about any political activity”. He further said that he didn’t come to strike a deal with the provisional government and that he was offended by the steps taken by the Home Ministry. He said, “I assume that the provincial government is getting personal with me. I can’t blame anyone for creating hurdles in my release but the Home Minister is handling all law and order affairs”.
Furthermore, he said he has no issues with his brother Nawab Changez Khan Marri. He is the Nawab of the Marri Baloch tribe in Pakistan. It is pertinent to mention that Nawab Changez Khan Marri is Balochistan’s Irrigation and Energy Minister. Ghazain Marri said that his brother has his own ideology and Ghazain Marri himself has a different ideology. On future prospects he said that it is very early to decide which party he would join, or if he will make his own. All he wants is to work for his tribesmen but above that, to face all the false charges.
Only the future can tell if Ghazain Marri and the provisional government will be able to strike a deal or if we will witness another Mama Qadeer Baloch.
