QUETTA: Chief Secretary Balochistan Shoaib Mir has said that Gaddani Ship breaking Yard is a profitable sector of Balochistan which can further be improved.

He expressed these views while talking to media persons following his visit to Gaddani Ship breaking Yard. He was briefed about the ship breaking yard by the Commissioner Kalat Hashim Gilzai.

He chaired a high level meeting over the Ship breaking Yard which was attended by Commissioner Kalat Hashim Ghilzai, Dy Inspector General Police (DG) Balochistan Shujja ul Haq Gichki, Deputy Commissioner Mujeeb ur Rehman, SSP Lesbela Zia Mandokhail, DS Malik Abdul Sattar Ronjho, ship breakers, members of labour unions and representatives of other relevant departments.

Chief Secretary was also apprised about the issues faced by the workers at Gaddani Ship breaking Yard.

Chief Secretary said that the report of committee has also been finalized about the fire incident at Gaddani Ship breaking Yard, adding that cases against its responsible elements are underway in Labour Court. He said that CM has also banned the oil ships in Gaddani and his order would remain intact till further orders, adding that no space for any inefficiency is left in Ship breaking Yard anymore.

He said that if any incident regarding the safety of the labourer takes place in Ship Breaking Yard, the responsible elements would be dealt with strictly.

Responding to a question, he said that the life of the labourers is important than anything else and therefore he visited Gaddani soon after assumption of charge so that the safety of the labourers could be implemented sooner than later.

He said that be it coal power project, Gaddani Ship Breaking Yard or any other industries, the right to employment is that of the local people.

He said that he would visit the area after a few weeks and would hear the complaints and issues about industries to address them.
