According to a recent press release of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistan Army media wing, Afghan Border Police opened fire on FC Balochistan personnel who were positioned to arrange for security of the Population Census team. The Frontier Corps staff reached on time and gave an apt riposte to their bellicosity. Pakistani authorities has also sojourned all cross border movements by closing the Chaman Border. Six civilians have been martyred as one of the mortar shell fired from Afghan side hit a house in the village. In addition; 46 others, including four FC Balochistan men, were wounded in the attack. The wounded were shifted to Chaman Hospital soon. As a reverberation of the sudden attack by Afghan forces, the security at Quetta-Chaman road has been on alert to thwart any possible terror movement. This punitive response was due to the fact that the Afghan authorities were already informed as stated by the ISPR, “This was done despite the fact that Afghan authorities had been informed well in advance and coordination was carried out through diplomatic and military channels for conduct of census.”
