LAHORE – Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani said the general guidelines of higher education are being improved to make them internationally comparative.

For this reason, the minister said, a detailed outline has been enthusiastically been planned so that the college students could take advantage from quality educational and research facilities. The government is also planning on hiring expert vice chancellors in public sector colleges to give vital support to the VCs for enhancing universities’ overall standards, he included.

He had a meeting with recently selected vice chancellors of four distinctive government colleges including Dr Zafar Moeen Nasar, Dr Rukhsana Kausar, Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad and Dr Muhammad Zubair at his office yesterday. Higher education Secretary Naseem Nawaz, Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Nizamuddin and PHEC Director General Dr Shahid Saroya were also present on the occasion.

The minister said the government is resolved to enhance the quality measures of universities with the goal that they may fall in the main 500 universities of the world. “Promotion of education is our priority agenda. The government will monitor the progress-based performance of the universities,” he told the vice chancellors. Gillani said the universities would likewise be given sufficient funds so that the students could conduct research and help Pakistan create knowledge based economy while the higher education division and the PHEC would likewise assume their part in such manner. He coordinated that students’ feedback cells ought to be set up in universities alongside the dispatch of computerized application. “I will personally monitor this complaints redressel system,” he told the VCs.

The vice chancellors shared their future plans to the minister and pledged to improve the academic measures of their universites in accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In the mean time, the clergyman conveyed tablets among 89 students of Atta-shad Degree College, Turbat-Balochistan at a function held at Al-Razi Hall of Punjab University.
