A few years back when Pakistan was in faltering and fumbling position, it initiated a project with its strategic ally China and named it as “China Pakistan Economic Corridor”. People were skeptical about the project and the investment. They believed that the whole thing will turn into a failed project like other projects. But every time it’s never about defeat when nations are consistent about anything; they rose from ashes and can become a superpower. On 29th of January 2017, the myths regarding CPEC went into the garbage. Pakistan achieved a milestone when the Prime Minister along with Balochistan Chief Minister, Azad Jammu Kashmir President and others leaders inaugurated the 1st EXPO at Gwadar.
Inaugurating the Free Zone and Expo 2018, PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi reiterated that the ongoing policies of economic development would continue, no matter which party forms the next government. The sense of achievement can be obtained from Prime Minister’s statement that there will be a smooth transition of power in 2018 which will be a guarantee card for China Pakistan Economic Corridor. The Gwadar Free Zone is actually spread over 60 acres which will be operated by China Overseas Port Holding Company, which has also set up a business centre for the handling of operations. Now, this business centre will be having multidimensional tasks, like it will be dealing with visa procedures, customs and immigration. As far as the industrial complex is concerned there will be the industry of fishery, stone processing, householding stuff and many others. The provisional government assured that in the special zones there will be tax exemptions.
On the inauguration of the Expo of Gwadar 2018, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Hasil Khan Bizenjo said that “the main objective of holding the Gwadar Expo 2018 was to highlight the significance of Gwadar, to promote its port and free zone as emerging business hub, and to provide a platform of interaction between local, regional and international business entrepreneurs”. The world has been known about the active Gwadar now, and it is expected that the foreign direct investment will be increased after this Expo. Moreover, the export will become vibrant as Special Economic Zones (SEZs) under CPEC will double the generation of economic activity and promote regional connectivity. Provincial Government has put its entire efforts in CPEC projects because they are based on financial viability which will bring environmental sustainability and prosperity. Due to CPEC, the infrastructure is also getting modernize. The railway system from Karachi to Peshawar, Khunjerab to Gwadar will be upgraded and eventually, it will provide quality services in health, education, and other social sectors for the people of Balochistan.
In contemporary times, the Gwadar Free Zone is in its initial construction and production phase (the year 2018-23). In meanwhile, the Gwadar free Zone will provide job opportunities for estimated 38,000 people and will increase the national economy size. The time is right for investing in Pakistan because now Balochistan is stable and prosperous.
