QUETTA:  UNICEF, a UN agency, has launched an ambitious plan in Balochistan providing quality education to the students in 11 districts of the Province. The UNICEF launched the programme in collaboration with the Government of Balochistan covering remote districts in far flung areas.

This was formally disclosed by Mr. Naqeebullah Khan, the Provincial Coordinator of BBEP, while briefing the newsmen in Quetta on the launching the BEEP programme here on Tuesday.

Besides other help, Mr. Naqeebullah Khan said that the UNICEF would provide real time school monitoring (RTSM) to improve and impart quality education to the children at the Government schools. The purpose is to improve the system of education in Balochistan, he added.

He said that the Balochistan Basic Education Programme (BBEP) meant to provide help, assist and coordinate in implementing the Balochistan education programme at the lowest level.

Mr. Khan disclosed that the UNICEF has plans to establish 100 units of EMIS for better planning and more rational distribution of resources among the schools and institutions to improve the entire system in a big way.

The system already proved helpful in decision-making integrating the school students and the chosen representatives and the civil society in further improving education system, he added.

Mr. Khan said that Local Education Councils, District Education Groups, Parents, teachers, school managements and children club are being revamped, involved and integrated for promotion of quality education in Balochistan.

As a result of this credible visionary plan, efforts are being made under the BBEP, students are feeling more relax and easy in getting admission in schools and also they are getting better and quality education, the BBEP Coordinator told the newsmen.

He announced that the UNICEF would train around 3000 teachers for imparting quality education besides upkeep more than 1000 Government school buildings extending better services and facilities to the students and teachers. He said that the school buildings will be upgraded, whitewashed, constructing four walls of the school buildings, modest green belt within the school premises, clean water for drinking, sport facilities with the supply of sports goods to the students and other facilities.

Leaders of public opinion in various fields had widely welcomed the UNICEF efforts, planning and financial and technical assistance to improve quality of education as the primary and basic level.

According to an official announcement, the Provincial Governor will be the chief guest at the formal inauguration of the Balochistan Basic Education Programme (BBEP) organized by Department of Secondary Education with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The function will be held at Hotel Serena on Wednesday forenoon.

Besides the provincial Minister for Education, the Ambassador of the European Union in Pakistan and representative of UNICEF in Pakistan will also participate in the inauguration ceremony.
