The vital coastal line of Pakistan’s largest province has remained plagued with unrest and disturbances. Decades of serious political and administrative neglect has aggravated the whole issue. Pakistan’s future and its leap forward towards prosperity are linked with Balochistan as it is ushering in transregional cooperation and connectivity. Apart from that Balochistan has been cursed for years by militant, sectarian and separatist violence that in the past rendered the province virtually as a remote area. The province was Pakistan’s most unstable and underdeveloped province due to various issues. Now the tables have been turned and the giant province is on its way of progress.

The outskirts of Balochistan still need to get developed and authorities are working on it. A sense of deprivation should be eliminated and that can be only be done by rapid development. Recently the ‘Saraib localities’ have been blessed by the government. Two days ago Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri has said that he will announce development packages for these localities. He said, ‘the development package for Saraib localities will range from Rs4 billion to Rs6 billion’. It is important to mention that Saraib localities have more than one million population, it is in the outskirts of Quetta. Nawab Sanaullah Zehri expressed his concerns on the aggravated landscape of Saraib localities and asked the authorities to provide basic amenities and services urgently. Right after these orders, Chief Minister promised the lump sum amount for this settlement. This good news for Saraib people came on the death anniversary of Mir Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo. Chief Minister reiterated that those people who actually are responsible for this underdevelopment are living a luxurious life in Europe. He further said that ‘I will reject foisting of ideas on the people at a gunpoint’.

Chief Minister praised the politics and service of Mir Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo. He said that he is also a follower of Bizenjo and admires his political thought. He further said that ‘we are the owners of the resources and the coast of the province, and the indigenous people are the real masters of these resources’. He further said that Bizenjo’s politics was based on peace and development for the people of Balochistan. He said that ‘Bizenjo never favoured militancy and always preferred talks to bring peace and ensure development’.

The Chief Minister targeted the militants in a reputable manner claiming that if they still respected late Mir Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo, they should surrender themselves. They are mere puppets in hands of the foreigners and non-state agencies. They are using the Baloch youth against Pakistan as the CPEC is directly challenging their every single effort to subdue the progress in Pakistan.

Chief Minister said that ‘militancy had pushed Balochistan 50 years back making a score of families suffer in the conflict’. Chief Minister is perfectly accurate about the fact that conflict halts the development and progress of that region. No matter the nature of conflict but its precautions are challenging for the region. Same is the case with Balochistan and due to these reasons, the province is underdeveloped.

On contemporary politics going around in Balochistan, Nawab Zehri was of the view that people are returning to Quetta after several years to serve the people of Balochistan. Eventually, they will have to face the courts for the accusations being made on them. Chief Minister said that ‘first, he (Ghazain Marri) will have to explain the crime he or they (militants) committed against the people of Balochistan. Only then will he take any position in politics’.

The politics in Balochistan is complicated. Somewhere the Marri leadership is coming back, somewhere the government is focusing on remote areas and somewhere it’s again the same militancy. The national elections are after six months, however, positive development is predicted for the fate of Balochistan.
