QUETTA: Coordinator Emergency Centre Balochistan Syed Faisal Ahmed has said that a three- day polio immunization campaign would kick off from 15th of May in 30 districts of the province and preparations in this regard have been finalized.
He shared these views in a press Conference here in his office with religious leaders and paramedical staff. He said that during this three-day polio immunization, as many as 2407382 children would be administered polio immunization drops along with the vitamin A drops, adding that 9,760 teams would be participating in the campaign which includes 8,234 mobile while 870 fixed site and 656 transit point teams.
Syed Faisal said that security arrangements have also been finalized. Balochistan Levies, Police and FC have been deployed for the security of the polio workers. He said that only a group of paramedics is on strike while all others are with them, adding that that currently Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria are the only countries where polio still exists.
The Coordinator said that one case each was reported from Gilgit Baltistan and Punjab and no case had been reported in Balochistan so far in the year, 2017. He said that the campaign to kick off from Monday is of high importance as many families are travelling from hot regions of the country to Balochistan and in this regard the transit points would be given special focus.
Syed Faisal said that along with the administration of polio drops, inoculation of children is also essential protecting them from other dangerous diseases, adding that this inoculation improves their immunity. He said that the services of community health workers have also been taken in this regard and the help of tribal notables and Ulema are also sought in this regard. He said that he and his team would not rest until the menace of polio has been eradicated.
