QUETTA:  The Balochistan Chief Minister, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, has censured the QESCO for inordinate delay in implementing power projects and schemes to provide electricity to the people in the Province.

The Chief Minister said that the chosen representatives of the people have very strong reservations about the conduct and performance of QESCO causing inordinate delay in implementing power projects of importance.

The Chief Minister announced that a Parliamentary Committee of the Balochistan Assembly would oversee the working of QESCO in implementing the power projects of prime importance.

He advised the QESCO to remove the reservations of the representatives of the people at the earlier and implement all the already delayed projects and regain the confidence of the people. Nawab Zehri said that he was committed to the people and he would continue to serve his people being the chosen representative. The Company should provide proper facilities and services for the people, he said.

The Chief Minister passed all these remarks in a high level meeting in which secretaries of the administrative departments of the Balochistan Government, Ministers and MPAs participated in large number highlighting their grievance against QESCO and its in-competency in serving the people of Balochistan.

The Chief Minister expressed his deep concern over the illegal tube-wells in Balochistan and told the gathering that he would talk to the Prime Minister in improving power supply in all parts of Balochistan and extending the power transmission lines in major parts of the Province.

At this point, the Chief Minister issued instructions to all concerned that stern action should be taken against the illegal tube-well in and around Quetta Valley. He was of the view that the indiscriminate withdrawal of water from subsoil is a crime against humanity and depleting the water reserves of millions of years. He called for immediate corrective measures to check indiscriminate withdrawal of water from subsoil. He also instructed the concerned people to prepare necessary legislation by the Balochistan Assembly to effectively check this menace.

Nawab Sanaullah Zehri also directed the QESCO to speed up work to connect Awaran region with the National Grid System on priority basis.

The Chief Minister called for judicious use of resources for promoting solar power. It is necessary to for achieving our economic and growth targets to develop Balochistan and ensure economic prosperity of the people in general.

He said that the Provincial Government should take advantage to build 50 MW power plants based on solar energy in Balochistan. Solar power should be used to attract direct investment for development of Balochistan.

The Chief Minister expressed his strong resentment over the slow movement of files, orders and directives and said that all the Government departments should perform their duties diligently.

In case of defiance, the matter should be brought to the notice of the CM Secretariat without any delay so that action is taken.

“We are sincerely in our work and committed to service of the people in a selfless manner,” Nawab Sanaullah Zehri told the gathering.
