In case of Pakistan, Balochistan is of significant importance but due to ethnopolitical culture, political unwillingness and short-sightedness of politicians, the province was not utilized up to its true potential. Later on, the leadership of Pakistan realized about the importance of Balochistan. This happened in last two decades. Still, people of Balochistan have a lot of grievances from federal and provisional government. The issue arose to occasion when the concerns of Baloch were neglected and they turned violent by the feeding of hostile countries.
Recently in last week, there were some major developments took place all over the country regarding electoral constituencies. The new delimitation of electoral constituencies was carried out under the recently-held population census. According to the notification of the Commission, Islamabad capital territory will have 3 constituencies Punjab 141, Sindh 61, KPK 39, Balochistan 16 and Federally Administered Tribal Areas will have 12 constituencies in the national assembly. Balochistan Assembly has passed a resolution and demands an increase of 20 seats in its current 65-member legislature after it surfaced that the new delimitation in the province was flawed.
The session was supervised by Speaker Raheela Khan Durrani. The resolution stated that the Balochistan Assembly was authorized by the Article 144 of the constitution that under Article 51 and 106 the assembly can increase the number of the National Assembly seats for Balochistan to 24 and five reserved seats for women. Furthermore, the number of the provincial assembly’s general seats can be increased to 20, the reserved seats for women to four and one additional seat for minorities. The speaker constituted a committee for approaching all elected senators and MNAs to ensure implementation of its resolution. The speaker also said that Balochistan election commissioner should remove apprehensions of public representatives regarding new delimitations. It was also decided that the provincial election commissioner would be summoned to brief the legislators on the delimitation process carried out in Balochistan.
Now such issues should not be confined only to legislature’s body but should be explained to the general public. The main reason for putting this point on the table is that these technical confusion been picked by the nefarious elements for sheer propaganda against the state of Pakistan. People of Balochistan have been synced with Federal and other provinces and gain massive strength as the chairperson of Senate has been elected from Balochistan. The sense of deprivation is now vanishing from the perceptions of people of Balochistan. More positive view of the whole picture is that the youth of Pakistan comprise 65% whereas in whole Pakistan the representation of youth is comparatively less. Only in case of Balochistan, the province is blessed with young blood, leaders like Sarfraz Bugti, current Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and many others; they are the youngsters and can understand the problem of youth. Holistically speaking, Balochistan is going towards the path of glory and sustainability as it is equipped with visionary leadership this time. This addition of seats in the provisional assembly will put more confidence in people of Balochistan which will be better for the whole country.
